Regenerative Medicine - Overcome Pain, Avoid Surgery!

Introducing Regenerative Medicine at CHS!

Regenerative medicine using stem cells offers new hope to those with osteoarthritis, tendonitis, injuries, and other disorders causing joint pain. For these conditions, it has recently gained increasing attention as a safer, non-invasive alternative to joint surgery/ Injury, Osteoarthritis or degeneration are common causes of severe joint pain. Historically, patients had the option of managing pain through the use of medication or having invasive surgery. An alternative solution, the therapeutic use of regenerative medicine is now being used worldwide to treat multiple conditions that were once considered to be chronic. Today, professional athletes and non-athletes alike are using regenerative medicine to treat acute injuries and speed up the healing process.

At CHS, we use an amniotic allograft (stem cells, hyaluronic acid, growth factor, and cytokines) which has the following advantages.

  • Non-pharmaceutical
  • Non-surgical
  • Higher concentration of components means improved results
  • Simple injection vs. multiple invasive procedures
  • Treats mild to pre-surgical osteoarthritic joint issues
  • Anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and fibrotic properties
  • Reduces risk of an adverse immune reaction

How It Works

This innovative treatment uses stem cells to heal injured or degenerated tissue. Patients receive an amniotic allograft injection composed of a high concentration of stem cells that stimulates the body’s repair mechanisms and accelerates healing. This unique approach to joint pain and soft tissue conditions has been helping chronically ill or injured people all over the world live normal lives and enjoy better health.
Regenerative medicine reduces inflammation in the damaged tissue and stimulates the release of growth factors promoting muscle growth. It also helps your body create new cells and repair damaged tissues, which aids in the restoration of normal function. Regenerative medicine has successfully treated arthritis, bursitis, overuse injuries, meniscus tears, tennis elbow and other painful conditions. Helping you regain your strength and mobility while ridding you of pain, unlike other stem cell procedures, amniotic allograft does not require an invasive procedure to remove blood, fat tissue or bone marrow. Amniotic stem cells have an exceptionally high potency, as they are in a very early stage of development compared to stem cells from adults. In addition to that, placental stem cells are considered “immune privileged,” because they very rarely evoke any immune response in the human body. Amniotic stem cell injections contain other natural compounds that help restore mobility and lubricate the joints, including hyaluronic acid, cytokines, growth factors, antimicrobial agents.

Amniotic Allograft vs. Other Stem Cell Therapies

(Adipose) Fat derived Stem Cells

  • Fat derived stem cells are drawn from adipose tissue (fat) via liposuction which is an invasive procedure
  • Donor sites for this procedure are frequently the abdominal wall, the buttock, and the love handles – a local anesthetic is required for this procedure
  • Multiple platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections are needed

Bone Marrow-Derived Stem Cells

  • Bone Marrow-derived Stem Cells require the donor site to usually be from the pelvis, performed with a specialized type of needle, with an approach from either front or back and a local anesthetic is used
  • The procedure (numbing, tracing, and the extraction) takes several hours
  • Multiple Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections are needed.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

  • Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) requires blood to be first drawn from a patient. The platelets are separated from other blood cells, and their concentration is increased. Then the increased concentration of platelets is combined with the remaining blood
  • A mixture of PRP and a local anesthetic is then injected directly into the inflamed tissue. Afterward, the pain at the area of injection may increase for the first week or two, and it may be several weeks before the patient feels a beneficial effect
  • Underlying stem cells are the age of the host vs. amniotic stem cells which are just one day old and are more efficient at the healing process

Where do our Amniotic Allografts Come From?

Donors are healthy women between the ages of 18-45 years. A careful medical and social history are collected in advance to ensure mothers meet all requirements, and placental tissues are collected at several facilities around the country. At the time of Cesarean delivery, the baby is delivered and the placenta and fluid, which are typically discarded, are saved.

All tissues are tested to ensure viability and safety, and this process follows strict guidelines and is consistent with industry best practices. Tissues are processed to the highest standards in a state-of-the-art American Association of Tissue Banks accredited facility and allografts are subjected to stringent USP testing before release.

Regenerative Medicine is Superior to Steroid Injection

Steroids are widely used to provide temporary relief from pain and inflammation. Steroids, however, have the following effects on your body:

  • Cortisone degrades bone density and cartilage over time
  • Eventually, worsens/speeds up the joint degeneration
  • Only temporary, pain relief wears off
  • Can increase/worsen systematic diseases like diabetes
  • Can’t do more than three times

Regenerative medicine is steroid free and does not weaken joints or muscles that lead to progressive and harmful arthritic changes. Regenerative medicine is safe for unlimited uses but only requires one injection and gains are permanent rather than temporary.

Regenerative Medicine is a Healthy Alternative to Invasive Surgery

Surgery is a very invasive procedure and will take a long time to heal. You might also require narcotics or other drugs to help you get through the discomfort after. There are several risks associated with any invasive surgery:

  • Permanent loss of mobility
  • High risk of infection
  • Irreversible
  • Permanent loss of function

Regenerative medicine doesn’t have any downtime, and you will be walking out the door of the clinic when you are done with the procedure. Contact us today to learn more about regenerative medicine, and we can help you improve your joint health.
